Cookie policy

This page sets out what this website stores on your phone or computer, who stores it and why, and how you can refuse it. We keep it to very little, and nothing on the site follows you around the web.

What a cookie is, and the law behind this page

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep, so the site can recognise your device on a later visit or remember something you chose. Similar tools work the same way in law: browser local storage, tracking pixels and scripts that read information from your device. On this page we call them all cookies.

In the UK the rules sit in regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. That regulation was replaced with effect from 5 February 2026 by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and the exceptions now live in a new Schedule A1. The general rule is simple: a website must not store information on your device, or read information already stored there, unless you agree or one of the listed exceptions applies. You can read the schedule itself on legislation.gov.uk.

Where a cookie collects personal information, our privacy policy explains how that information is handled and what rights you have over it.

The exceptions that let a site skip the consent banner

Schedule A1 sets out the cases where no consent is needed. The ones that matter for a small business website are these:

  • Strictly necessary. Storage that is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for, such as keeping a form secure, preventing fraud or remembering a choice you made on the page.
  • Statistics. Counting how the site is used, where the sole purpose is to make improvements to the site or service, the figures are not shared except to help with those improvements, you are given clear and full information about it, and you have a simple way to object that costs nothing.
  • Appearance or functionality. Remembering a display preference or otherwise improving how the website looks or works, on the same conditions: clear information, and a free and simple way to say no.

Anything outside those cases, such as advertising cookies or cookies set by another company for its own purposes, needs your consent first. Consent has to be a real choice, given after you have been told the purpose.

Everything this website can store on your device

This table lists each part of the site that can place or read a cookie, and when it happens.

Part of the siteWho sets itWhen it happens
The website itselfUs, through WordPress[operator to confirm: whether WordPress or any plugin sets a cookie for visitors who are not logged in; the theme sets none]
The enquiry formOur enquiry system provider, inside a frame on the pageWhen a page with the form loads. [operator to confirm: the name, purpose and duration of any cookie the form provider sets, and that it is strictly necessary to send the form]
The Google mapGoogleOnly after you press the button to load it
The coverage mapNo cookie; map images are requested from OpenStreetMapWhen the map is on screen. [operator to confirm: no cookie is set by the tile service]
Analytics[operator to confirm: none installed, or the tool's name][operator to confirm]

The phone number, the WhatsApp button and the links to our social profiles are plain links. Nothing from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, X or LinkedIn loads on our pages. Those services only see you once you tap through to them, and then their own cookie rules apply.

The enquiry form and what it needs

Our quote and enquiry form is supplied by the company that runs our enquiry system, and it sits inside a frame on our pages. When you fill it in, your message goes straight to that system so we can reply to you. A form of this kind may use a cookie to keep the submission secure and to stop automated spam. Storage used only for that purpose falls under the strictly necessary exception, because sending the form is the service you have asked for.

[operator to confirm: the provider's name as it should appear on this page, and whether its form sets any cookie that is not strictly necessary. If it does, that cookie needs your consent before it is set.]

If you would rather not use the form, call 01243 252373 or send us a WhatsApp message instead. Both reach the same people, and your enquiry is dealt with in the same way.

Why the Google map waits for your click

Our contact page shows where we are on Google Maps. A Google map embedded in a page sets Google cookies as soon as it loads, and those cookies serve Google's purposes as well as ours. For that reason the map does not load by itself. You see a placeholder with a button, and the map appears only if you press it.

Pressing the button is your choice to load content from Google. From that moment Google's own privacy and cookie policies apply to what it stores, and we have no control over those cookies. If you leave the placeholder alone, nothing from Google is loaded, and you can still find us by searching for JJ Roofing Bognor Regis on Google.

The coverage map on the same page is drawn from OpenStreetMap map images. Your browser asks OpenStreetMap's servers for those images, so they receive your device's internet address, as any website you visit does.

Analytics and visitor statistics

[operator to confirm: whether any analytics tool, such as Google Analytics, is installed on the live site.]

If none is installed, this website keeps no statistics about you and sets no tracking cookies of any kind. If a statistics tool is added later, we will name it here before it goes live, say what it records and for how long, and set it up in one of two ways. Either it runs only after you agree to it, or it runs under the statistics exception: used only to improve this website, with its figures kept to that purpose, and with a clear and free way for you to object that switches it off.

We will not use advertising or remarketing cookies without asking you first.

How to refuse, block or delete cookies

You stay in control of what your browser keeps. Every mainstream browser lets you see the cookies it holds, delete them, and block them for one site or for all sites. Look under the privacy or site settings menu of the browser you use. Private or incognito windows delete cookies when you close them.

Blocking cookies on this website will not stop you reading any page. The one part that may stop working is the enquiry form, if your browser blocks the cookie the form uses to send securely. If that happens, phone or WhatsApp us instead.

To keep Google's cookies off your device, do not press the button that loads the Google map. If you have loaded it before, delete the Google cookies in your browser settings.

Updates to this page and how to reach us

We review this page whenever the website changes in a way that affects what it stores, for example a new form provider or a statistics tool. The date at the top of the next version will show when it changed.

This policy was last updated on [operator to confirm: effective date].
