What the guarantee promises
If a fault appears in the work we did because of the way we did it, we come back and put it right at no cost to you. That promise lasts for 10 years from [operator to confirm: the date the guarantee runs from, for example the completion date or the date of the final invoice].
The guarantee is about workmanship: how the roof was fixed, laid, dressed and finished by us. It covers the area of roof we worked on and the work described in your written quote, together with any extra work you agreed with us in writing during the job.
You receive the guarantee in writing once the job is finished and paid for. [operator to confirm: whether it is issued as a certificate, a letter or a section of the final invoice, and what it records, such as the address, the work done and the start date.] Keep it with the house papers. It is the document you will need if you ever make a claim.
Our own promise, not an insurance policy
This is a plain statement of how the guarantee is backed. It is our own guarantee, given by JJ Roofing Bognor Regis. It is not backed by insurance. No insurer, deposit scheme or trade body stands behind it, and you pay nothing extra for it.
What that means in practice: the guarantee is honoured by us, for as long as the business is trading. If JJ Roofing Bognor Regis stopped trading, there would be no third party to take over a claim under it.
Some roofers sell a separate policy from an insurer that will pay for faulty work to be put right if the firm has closed. Ours is not that kind of product. When you compare roofers, it is fair to ask any of them which kind of guarantee they are offering, who pays out under it, and what happens to it if the firm closes.
[operator to confirm: that no insurance or third-party scheme sits behind the guarantee on any job, including commercial work.]
Work the guarantee covers
The guarantee applies to faults that come from our workmanship on the area we worked on. Typical examples are:
- a ridge or hip tile we fixed that works loose under normal weather;
- a leak at a flashing we dressed, where the lead or the joint we made has failed;
- slates or tiles we laid slipping because of the way they were fixed;
- a flat roof we laid that lets water in at a seam, an upstand or an edge trim we formed;
- guttering, fascias or soffits we fitted coming away because of how they were fixed.
If a fault like this appears, we inspect it, and where it is down to our workmanship we repair it without charge, including the labour, the materials and any access the repair needs. [operator to confirm: that scaffolding or other access needed for a guarantee repair is included at no cost.]
Materials and manufacturers' warranties
This guarantee is about how we did the work, not about whether a product later fails on its own. Many roofing materials, such as membranes, roof windows and some tiles, come with their own warranty from the manufacturer, with its own terms and length.
[operator to confirm: whether manufacturers' product warranties are registered in the customer's name or passed on with the paperwork, and which products on a typical job carry one.]
A warranty is not the same as a lifespan. A roof covering may last well beyond the guarantee period or need attention earlier because of weather, movement or maintenance. Lifespans given on our pages are typical ranges from published guides, never a promise about your roof.
What falls outside the guarantee
The guarantee does not cover:
- parts of the roof or building we did not work on, even if they sit next to our work;
- temporary repairs made to keep water out until a permanent repair can be done [operator to confirm: whether temporary make-safe work is excluded or carries a shorter period];
- damage from storms or other events beyond normal weather, which is a matter for your buildings insurance;
- damage caused by other people, such as aerial, satellite or solar panel installers, or anyone walking on the roof;
- problems from lack of upkeep, such as blocked gutters or heavy moss left to build up;
- movement, settlement or decay in the structure of the building, unless we worked on that part;
- defects we pointed out in writing that you decided not to have repaired;
- work altered or repaired by anyone else after we finished.
[operator to confirm: any further exclusions, and whether the guarantee covers loss caused by a fault, such as water damage to ceilings or contents, or only the repair of the roof work itself.]
Keeping the guarantee valid
A few simple things keep the guarantee working for you. Keep the written guarantee and your invoice together. Keep gutters and outlets clear so water can leave the roof. Tell us as soon as you see a sign of a problem, because a small fault caught early is easier to put right and causes less damage inside.
If you need another trade to work on the roof, such as an aerial fitter or a solar installer, let us know beforehand where you can. Work by others on the area we covered can take that part outside the guarantee if it disturbs what we did.
If you sell the house, [operator to confirm: whether the guarantee passes to the new owner, and if so how they register it with us].
How to make a claim
- Call us on 01243 252373, send a WhatsApp message or email info@jjroofingbognorregis.co.uk.
- Tell us where the property is, roughly when we did the job and whose name the guarantee is in, then describe what you have noticed.
- Send photographs if you can take them safely from the ground or from inside, such as a stain on a ceiling or a tile out of line. Please do not climb onto the roof.
- We arrange a visit to inspect the roof. [operator to confirm: how soon guarantee visits are arranged and whether there is any notice period for making a claim.]
If water is coming in, say so at the start of the call, because stopping the water takes priority over everything else.
After the inspection we explain what we found, with photographs. If the fault is down to our workmanship, we repair it at no cost. Where the cause lies elsewhere, the photographs show you why, and we can price the fix in writing should you want us to do it.
Your rights in law come first
The guarantee is extra to your legal rights, not instead of them. Under section 49 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the work a trader does for a consumer has to be done using reasonable care and skill. If a job falls short of that, you have remedies in law whether or not the guarantee applies, and the guarantee does not limit them.
If you are unhappy with how a guarantee claim is handled, our complaints procedure sets out the next steps. The terms and conditions explain how quotes, cancellation and payment work for the original job.

Questions
Common questions about the guarantee
Does the 10-year cover apply to a small repair as well as a new roof?
[operator to confirm: whether every job carries the full 10 years, or whether small repairs and temporary make-safe work carry a shorter period.] Whatever applies to your job is printed on the guarantee document we hand over at the end of the job, so you can look it up whenever you need to.
Will a guarantee claim cost me anything?
Not when the fault is down to our workmanship. The inspection and the repair are free in that case. If the cause turns out to be something outside the guarantee, such as storm damage or work by another trade, we explain what we found and you decide whether you want us to quote for it.
Can I claim on my home insurance and on the guarantee for the same fault?
They cover different things. The guarantee covers putting right faults in our workmanship. Buildings insurance usually deals with sudden events such as storm damage. If you are unsure which applies, tell your insurer about any damage first and keep photographs, then contact us so we can inspect the roof.
